About Aberfeldy Weather

Where we are:

Well it's 3 miles due west of Aberfeldy in a wee hamlet called Camserney, that snakes up the Camserney Burn. We lie 100 meters (asl) up in the Appin of Dull. Dull is the next village along (all jokes were finally completed in 1907, so don't). The valley runs W-E from the top of Loch Tay and Drummond Hill (458 meters) and runs with the river Tay down to the A9 at Ballinluig. The valley or strath is verdant and bordered on either side by hills of around 500 meters. Beyond the hills are several mountains >1000 meters. It's just like a valley in a children's book. See OS map 52.

We are 34 miles NW of Perth. 50 miles N of Stirling and roughly 100 miles south of Inverness.

What I use for the data:

I run Met Office Climate Station 1455, aptly named (for some) Aberfeldy Dull. I have 4 thermometers in a standard Stevenson Screen; dry bulb, wet bulb, minimum and maximum. Ouside the screen i have a grass minimum thermometer.

I have a 30 cm soil thermometer and beyond that stainless steel rain bucket that is measured by tipping into a glass measure (mm). I also have an automatic tipping rain bucket that is owned and read by The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).

As back up I also have a Kestrel 4000 mobile weather tracker which measures wind speed; temperature, wind chill, heat index, rel. humidity, dew point, barometric pressure; altitude and density altitude. It takes readings every 30 minutes and stores them for 120 hours, I can make manual readings too.

A bit about Brian

I live here with my wife Olivia and my two girls and new baby Hamish. I am 42 and a freelance Climatic Fanatic. I run a shop on Ebay called Aberfeldy Antiques and sell around 20 items a day 7 days a week from it.

Everyone loves the weather but may not necessarily know that. For more info drop me an email (best to include the line "hey Brian, great site" in the subject box :o).
